The NHL dumped the full 2026–27 schedule. First 84-game season. 1,344 games. Opening night is Tuesday 29 September: Carolina raises a second Cup banner, then hosts Florida. Same night you also get Montreal–Toronto, Rangers–Boston, Vancouver–Edmonton, Chicago–Vegas. Penguins–Flyers and Kings–Avalanche land on the 30th. Busy start.
What actually changed
Season wraps 10 April. Mondays now get a steady evening slate in North American time, aimed at European prime time. Every team also plays on 13 October and on the last day of the calendar. Small stuff on paper. Changes how the grind feels week to week if you actually watch.

Outdoor hockey is back in Texas. Winter Classic and Global Series give the longer year some landmarks. Monday nights and those early Europe windows are the new wrinkles if you price the season before September.
